RONGU
Rongu or Rongo is another unspoilt tiny remote village on the top of a hill at an altitude of 4500 ft near the Bhutan border. Rongu is having only 500 odd population with a market, post office and few houses in its locality. Rongo used to be a significant place for plantation and growing medicinal plants. Rongo offers excellent views of adjoining Bhutan hills, dense forests and river valley of Jaldhaka. It is the doorway to the Neora Valley National Park. Positioned on a hilltop the place offers a bird’s eye view of a vast plains of Dooars spotted with tea gardens and forests. It offers many mild trek routes around the area. Most awesome trek in the Neora Valley Park begins from Mouchuki to Rechela - uppermost point of the Park.What to see :
Jhalong, Bindu, Jaldhaka are nearby places. One can enjoy the tranquality of the place only by sitting in the hotel lounge overlooking the hills & forests.
How to reach:
Rongo can be arrived from Siliguri through the Dooars crossing Chalsa, Khunia More Gairibas. New Mal Junction is the nearest rail head. One can reach Rongo by car from New Mal via Gairibas arounf 45 KMs.
